This need was crucial for Saurer-Allma, a manufacturer of twisting machines and the parent company of ALLMATIC. Due to the lack of suitable solutions in the market, Saurer-Allma took the initiative to develop a machine vice tailored to its specific requirements. This endeavor marked the beginning of ALLMATIC’s journey in producing high-quality clamping devices.

The Shortage of Vice Systems
In the early 1970s, the West German economy was rapidly growing, and new production processes were being implemented in mechanical engineering. As a result, there was a significant need for suitable mechanical clamping vice devices.
This was also true for Saurer-Allma GmbH, a company that produced twisting machines. The company was searching for a reliable vice system with controllable clamping force and repeatable clamping accuracy, but it could not find the product it needed in the market
As a result, Saurer-Allma quickly turned the situation to its advantage by designing its own vice system equipped with a low-maintenance mechanical power amplifier, intended for both in-house use and for sale. This vice system achieved great success, and in 1973, ALLMATIC Spannsysteme was founded under the umbrella of the Saurer Group.
In the 1980s, the need for professional vice systems in machine tools had diminished. The development of machines towards CNC-controlled machining centers made it difficult to properly use existing vice devices. Therefore, ALLMATIC developed a completely new vice system—the NC vice, equipped with a mechanical power spindle. The beam principle revolutionized the vice device market so effectively that this design principle remains relevant today.
